Meet our Remi

Remi is a sweet, smart, and snuggly F1 Bernedoodle, resulting in the perfect blend of both worlds: the calm, loyal nature of the Bernese and the intelligence, athleticism, and low-shedding coat of the Poodle. She goes absolutely crazy at the site of a single snowflake…as most Bernedoodles do! But she’s also a huge fan of our family camping trips on the lake so she can swim. She’s so adored in our family and amongst our friends that we had to share her with the world!

Remi made us fall in love with the Bernedoodle breed so much that we ended up keeping one of her puppies from her first litter, Mack. He is such a wonderful addition to our family and in ways we never knew we needed. But, it doesn’t end there! One of Remi’s other puppies, Axel (Jean Luc from our first litter), sired a litter at Bernedoodle Boutique and we are taking home a female this Christmas! She will be a wonderful addition to Red Pine Bernedoodles and, when she is old enough, we are hoping to add her to our list of mommas.

Here is some information about the Berendoodle breed.

WHAT IS A BERNEDOODLE?

A Bernedoodle (also sometimes referred to as a Bernadoodle) is a combination of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a toy, mini, or standard Poodle. Bernedoodles are known to be a friendly, happy go lucky, and mellow breed.

WHAT IS THE BERNEDOODLES TRAINABILITY LIKE?

Due to the Poodles sensitive nature and Bernese stubbornness, they will need firm yet gentle trainer. Bernedoodles are smart and eager to please. Basic training should begin as soon as you bring your Bernedoodle puppy home. Just remember that patience and consistency will be key! ***(Remi was exceptionally easy to train, and to be honest, we never really noticed the stubbornness.)***

HOW MUCH EXERCISE DOES A BERNEDOODLE NEED?

Bernedoodles are intelligent and will require mental stimulation and regular exercise to keep them happy and prevent them from becoming bored or obese. Due to the fact that they have a low to medium energy level, they typically do not require endless amounts of exercise. They are happy playing, romping, going for walks, and can even make a great jogging partner. Some Bernedoodles also like to swim! ***(Remi LOVES being in the water! She’s a little bottom heavy so she’s not the most graceful swimmer 😂 but she could spend all day in the water. The same goes for a fresh snowfall. This breed originated in the Swiss Alps so they are meant to be in cold weather. Nothing makes Remi happier, with the exception of mama snuggles, than playing in the snow.)***

WHAT IS THE BERNEDOOLE TEMPERAMENT LIKE?

This breed is often referred to as easy-going (though they can be a bit stubborn when it comes to training), playful, and loyal. They are very social and do best if they are not left alone for extended periods of time. Many refer to Bernedoodles as being the “class clown” because of their goofy, fun loving personalities! ***(We never really noticed the stubbornness in training Remi, unless she was really enjoying her outside time. She was a VERY quick learner and knew her name, how to sit, and the command “wait” before entering a door and receiving her food…All in the first week of her being home with us)***

HOW LONG DO BERNEDOODLES LIVE?

The life expectancy of an Bernedoodle is between 10-18 years. This seems like quite a large range right? Remember that in general, smaller dogs tend to live longer than larger dogs. It is important to keep in mind that many factors can affect their life expectancy such as diet, exercise, injury, genetics, etc.

WHY CHOOSE A BERNEDOODLE?

A Bernese Mountain Dog (often referred to as a “gentle giant”) is a breed that is known to be good natured, affectionate, and devoted to their family. Many love Bernese (who wouldn’t!), but they are known to have a shorter lifespan and are heavy shedders.

Poodles on the other hand are non-shedding and typically have a longer lifespan. They are an extremely smart breed that is eager to please and often very easy to train. Don’t let their “dainty” appearance fool you either! Did you know that Poodles were originally used as hunting dogs?

The combination of these two breeds creates a smart, mellow dog that has a longer lifespan and is typically very low to non-shedding!
